Grillstock goes into administration

By Bristol24/7  Wednesday Nov 22, 2017

It began as a music and barbecue festival in Bristol and later expanded into restaurants across the UK.

But the future of Grillstock is now in doubt after the company fell into administration.

The Grillstock market stall in St Nick’s Market and restaurant on the Clifton Triangle are both still open, with the business and all of its assets now for sale as a going concern.

Gareth Roberts and Paul Ellison of KRE Corporate Recovery have been appointed administrators.

Grillstock’s turnover in the year to November 30 2016 was £3.1m, and in the nine months to August 31 2017 was £1.8m. Despite this, Bristol24/7 understands that suppliers are owed thousands of pounds.

Grillstock co-founders Jon Finch and Ben Merrington both left the business before it went into administration. In early 2016, the pair published a book featuring more than 100 barbecue recipes.

As well as its two businesses in Bristol, Grillstock has other restaurants in Bath, Leicester and Walthomstow in east London. Further restaurants had been planned to open in Liverpool, Exeter and Cardiff.

The Grillstock Festival on the harbourside – featuring the infamous chilli eating contest – has in recent years seen the likes of The Darkness and The Fratellis play, with festivals also taking place in Manchester in London.
