Acclaimed restaurant begins pop-up in former Quaker meeting house
A restaurant usually found in a former off licence in Southville has started a two-month pop-up in one of Bristol’s oldest buildings.
While renovation work takes place at their usual home on Raleigh Road, Sonny Stores will be found in the Friary building in Quakers Friars – originally a Quaker meeting house – until June 2.
Lunch is available from Thursday to Sunday and dinner from Wednesday to Saturday, with a daily changing menu as well as a bar menu.

The buildings at the centre of what is now Quakers Friars started life as a Dominican Friary and were used by the Quaker community and also as Bristol’s register office.
The Friary Building was most recently Klosterhaus restaurant until it closed abruptly at the beginning of 2023 and before that was Brasserie Blanc.
“We’re going to be very happy in this spot for the next couple of months,” wrote the Sonny Stores team on Instagram.
“We have a lot more space at this venue so please do get in touch with big party requests. We would love to host you!”
