Blue Juice to return in former launderette

By Martin Booth  Tuesday Sep 23, 2014

Blue Juice is hoping to return to Cotham Hill in premises over the road from the popular cafe’s former home.

The cafe hopes to move into Staffords launderette, which will remain in the premises but only occupy one-third of the space, with their new entrance on Abbotsford Road.

The only current objection to the plans (see them online here) comes from Natalie Lazarides, who just happens to be the owner of Chickpea cafe, one of about a dozen other food and drink options on Cotham Hill.

Blue Juice certainly isn’t the only Bristol food and drink business currently looking for a new home.

Byron, known to be chancellor George Osborne’s burger restaurant of choice after he tweeted a photo of him eating one on the evening before the comprehensive spending review, is due to open soon on Queen’s Road on the Triangle, next to White Stuff.

Byron has more than 30 locations in London and is currently expanding across the UK from Exeter to Leeds.

Just a few hundred yards away, work on Cau has gathered pace in recent weeks and the restaurant is currently advertising for staff.

A smaller chain than Byron, with five restaurants in the UK and one in Amsterdam, Cau promises “mouthwatering steaks, burgers and steak sandwiches are joined by a tempting selection of more-ish favourites, each with a distinctive Buenos Aires twist”.

Over in Clifton Village, what used for many years to be The Muset and then a short-lived venture into Bristol by Ronnie’s, will see the opening of award-winning Indian restaurant The Mint Room, whose Bath restaurant offers Indian fine dining.

Meanwhile, south of the river, North Street will soon be getting its first tea rooms in the shape of Margot May.
