St Paul’s Carnival 2020 cancelled

By martin booth, Tuesday Mar 24, 2020

St Paul’s Carnival organisers promise to keep the carnival spirit alive during these challenging times despite being forced to cancel this summer’s event.

In the absence of a normal carnival, the organising team are also in discussions about staging a two-week series of fringe events and an adapted schools’ programme later this year.

Carnival executive director LaToyah McAllister-Jones said: “Obviously we are hugely disappointed not to be able to stage Carnival as usual in July this year but it is absolutely the right decision in the current situation.

“As an organisation focused on community cohesion, we understand that city resources will need to focus on keeping all our communities safe and well during this period.

“Once we get through this tough time we will all need to reconnect and engage with our neighbours, friends and family so we will try our best to create an adapted celebration at a later date.”

She added: “During these challenging times we want to keep the Carnival spirit alive during the coming months as we all work together.”
