Review: Peppa Pig’s Big Splash, Hippodrome
Too many humans, too little plot. But most of the under-fives at Peppa Pig’s Big Splash at the Bristol Hippodrome didn’t care too much about this, still content to clap, jump up and down, and wave their hands around when prompted.
The main star was not even Peppa; it was a girl called Daisy (played by Emma Grace Arends) who was a friend of our porcine paragon.
Popular characters from the television show were small and handled by their puppeteers dressed in black. It was hard to see who was talking unless you were looking at these puppeteers.
The storyline was almost non-existent. There was a brief mention at the start that Daddy Pig was a champion puddle jumper and at the end his attempt to break the record.
The show was mostly snippets of episodes familiar to children and parents alike. But little linked them together.
Interspersed with songs and lots of interaction requested from the little ones, one family in the stalls still chose to watch Peppa Pig on the iPad they had brought with them rather than follow the action on stage.
Peppa Pig’s Big Splash is at the Bristol Hippodrome today at 10am and 1pm. For more information and to book tickets, visit www.atgtickets.com/shows/peppa-pigs-big-splash/bristol-hippodrome/.
