Review: How Cold My Toes, Brewery Theatre
A family show taking young audiences through the four seasons using the medium of dance could also see little hands searching for the parcel tape once back home in order to recreate one particularly memorable moment.
It was autumn and Laura Street wrapped up a mischievous Joel Daniel, who still proceeded to annoy her and then roll around in the golden leaves on the floor.
This is one of a collection of scenes in a show with no story but one which entrances with a delightful combination of dance choreographed by Daniel, music by Pete Judge reminiscent of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, and always humour from our two performers.
There are no words either other than those spoken by the voice of a weatherman to signify a change of season.
Directed by Sally Cookson with regular designer Katie Sykes, How Cold My Toes is made by Travelling Light, the Barton Hill-based company behind Cinderella at the Tobacco Factory in 2011 who are celebrating their 30th anniversary.
Although the one-hour running time may be a tad over-ambitious for a pre-school crowd, this is a fun and whimsical introduction to live theatre.
How Cold My Toes is at the Brewery Theatre until Sunday. Visit www.tobaccofactorytheatres.com/shows/detail/how_cold_my_toes/.
