Community theatre collective marks centenary with special production
One of the longest running community theatre groups in Bristol has marked its centenary.
Bristol Musical Comedy Club (BMCC) will mark the anniversary with a special production of Rodger and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, an evergreen favourite among the musical theatre aficionados.
The group said the show is particularly poignant while looking ahead despite mounting financial pressures affecting many community theatre groups.
Founded in 1926, the long-running community theatre group has spent decades nurturing local talent and bringing musical theatre to Bristol.

Over the years, BMCC has presented a wide repertoire, from classic works by Gilbert and Sullivan to well-known West End and Broadway musicals, while providing a platform for generations of local talent both on stage and behind the scenes.
Many members have remained involved for years, giving the club a strong sense of continuity and community.
The group has also adapted to changing times, evolving its productions, venues and membership while maintaining its core ethos: making high-quality musical theatre accessible to Bristol audiences and offering opportunities for people of all backgrounds to get involved in live performance.

Past productions of BMCC include Legally Blonde, Rent (pictured), Sister Act and Anything Goes
The collective produces two shows every year. Past productions include Legally Blonde, Rent, Sister Act and Anything Goes.
The production will feature a cast and creative team drawn entirely from the local community, continuing the club’s tradition of grassroots performance.
Rob McDonald, chair, said: “Reaching our centenary is an incredible achievement and one we are enormously proud of.
“But it’s no secret that times are hard for arts organisations right now, well – for everyone.
“But, buying a ticket isn’t just a night out — it’s a direct way of supporting local performers, creatives and volunteers, and helping to ensure we can continue to bring musical theatre to Bristol for another 100 years.”
