Bristol to host world premiere of Greatest Showman musical

By Martin Booth  Monday Mar 10, 2025

The stage musical of The Greatest Showman will be performed for the first time anywhere in the world in Bristol ahead of a likely transfer to both the West End and Broadway.

The new Disney show based on the Oscar-nominated film will open at the Bristol Hippodrome in the spring of 2026.

It is quite a coup for the St Augustine’s Parade theatre, which has regularly hosted Disney musicals in recent years including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin.

According to Disney, the stage adaptation of The Greatest Showman will feature familiar songs such as A Million Dreams, Rewrite the Stars and This Is Me, alongside new songs written especially for the musical.

The show will be directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award-winning Casey Nicholaw, who has previously worked on The Book of Mormon and the forthcoming production of Disney’s Hercules.

Open auditions for the roles for the Bristol production will take place across the UK in March and April.
