Unique auction to raise funds for historic concert hall

By Alana Levi  Wednesday Sep 24, 2025

Historic music venue and charity St George’s is holding a special auction to fund its vital work.

Sonic Postcards features over 40 postcards hand-crafted by a range of creatives who have performed at the renowned Great George Street venue over the years – including artist Lucas Antics, poet and author Hollie McNish and Sir Tony Robinson.

The postcards include paintings, drawings, poems, personal messages, music manuscript and cartoons – each personally signed by the artists who created them.

The money raised will contribute to funding the work of the acclaimed venue, including community work and building upkeep.

‘Baldrick’s Dream’ is the name of Tony Robinson’s illustration for the special auction – ilustration: Tony Robinson

St George’s is a 200-year-old Georgian church transformed into a 580-seat concert hall and showcases hundreds of musical performances each year.

In addition to contributing to the city’s music scene, the venue also serves as a cultural hub, hosting educational and community projects, family events, author talks and live comedy.

Funds raised by the auction will contribute to St George’s work with young musicians across Bristol and beyond, with the venue engaging over 4,000 children in musical and educational projects across the city.

Contributer Lucas Antics’ distinctive artworks adorn numerous buildings in Bristol – from the Six Sisters murals on North Street in Bedminster to the University of Bristol’s Cabot Institute.

The artist said that Sonic Postcards is “a beautiful and creative project, and for such an important cause,” and she has “absolutely loved” being part of it.

The online auction closes at midday on Wednesday, followed by an event in the evening where a select few postcards will be displayed for a final bidding and an immersive performance by Dame Evelyn Glennie and Bristol Ensemble will take place.
