‘The Big Spooky Sing Thing’: a ‘special, one-off, intimate musical experiment’
They may be self-described as “just a bunch of blokes”, but Australian singing troupe The Spooky Men’s Chorale have been mesmerising audiences for over two decades and 900 gigs.
Armed with only “their voices, a sly collection of hats and facial hair, and a twinkle in the eye”, they are characterised for putting their own unique spin on an eclectic mix of songs.
Their repertoire features folk ballads, “highly inappropriate covers” and anthems to soundtrack a new type of masculinity; “happily suspended”, they point out, “between thug and wimp”.

Within their history, the group have recorded seven albums, and performed at festivals and concert halls all over Australia and Europe.
In the late summer of 2025 they are embarking on a UK tour, which visits the historic splendour of The Mount Without on September 2 for a night pitched as “a special, one-off, intimate musical experiment”.
Intended to be a showcase for their new material, the concert will also offer all audience members a chance to join in with the Spooky singers.
As the show approaches, all ticket holders will be invited to a shared folder where they can access and learn several songs – to be sung along with The Spooky Men’s Chorale on the night.
For those who are more reticent, the group is keen to emphasise that there is absolutely no pressure to get involved.
“We know there are a lot of amazing singers in the area”, they say, “and it would be very cool to sing with you all, but if you just want to turn up and watch the show, you’ll get the best surround sound experience we can think of!”
