Proms to return to Bristol for 2025

By Martin Booth  Thursday Apr 24, 2025

Four concerts will take place at Bristol Beacon and an afternoon concert will be held at St George’s as the Proms comes to Bristol for the second consecutive year.

Concerts at the Beacon from August 22 to 24 will see Bristol-based Paraorchestra perform with folk duo The Breath; a late-night live edition of BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction presented by Verity Sharp featuring guest artists Sarahsson and Wojciech Rusin; the Britten Sinfonia; and the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera with Carlo Rizzi and mezzo-soprano Avery Amereau.

At St George’s, the Danish National Vocal Ensemble will present a choral programme from across the centuries including Palestrina, Ethel Smyth, Mahler and Bach.

Beacon chief executive Simon Wales said he is “enormously pleased” to be a Proms host venue once again “and we are proud to be working with the BBC Proms to continue to offer music that is open to all”.

All the concerts at the Beacon will be broadcast live on Radio 3, whose controller Sam Jackson said he is “thrilled the BBC Proms is returning to Bristol for our second residency at Bristol Beacon”.

Paraorchestra artistic director Charles Hazlewood added: “We’re beyond excited to be bringing another world premiere to the BBC Proms, from our home at Bristol Beacon…

“I can say, hand on heart, that this will be so much more than the standard orchestra-meets-band. I guarantee you will hear things – and instrumental combinations – that you have never heard before.”
