Preview: Simple Things 2019

By Caitlin Scott  Tuesday Oct 1, 2019

2018 saw incredible performances at Simple Things festival in Bristol. Helena Hauff, Slowdive, Kamaal Williams and Black Midi, among so many others, pulled out all the stops for a few days of experimental, boundary-breaking music.

Simple Things returns on October 17-19 this year, to yet again celebrate innovation in the industry, across various venues including Colston Hall, IMAX, Planetarium, SWX, Lakota, We The Curious, Rough Trade, Studio 5 and more.

Simple Things 2019 will open at We The Curious’ IMAX cinema on October 18. From 7-11pm, there will be a premiere of a new audio-visual performance “10000 Peacock Feathers in Foaming Acid” from William Basinki, Evelina Domnitch and Dmitry Gelfand. Expect lots of lasers and lots of bubbles.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Simple Things Festival 2019

Across 17-19 October, Bristol’s venues will see headline performances from the likes of tech-experimentalist Holly Herndon, hotly-tipped Nilüfer Yanya, Aïsha Devi, Ata Kak, Squid, Jayda G and much much more.

This year will also see the inclusion of Simple Things EXT.; an extended programme of unique performances, talks and art installations. Highlights over the weekend will include a conversation lead by Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja, an augmented reality experience led by artist Aïsha Devi, and Holly Herndon and Matt Dryhurst in conversation with Chal Ravens.
