Preview: Ritual Union 2024

By Issy Packer  Tuesday Mar 19, 2024

Returning for its third year, Ritual Union has become a staple of Bristol’s music scene, bringing local, national and international artists together for a full programme of exciting performances.

With the return of Simple Things Festival in February and the wait for Dot to Dot Festival and Love Saves the Day in May, Ritual Union is sandwiched in between, filling the city’s appetite for live music with a 15 hour event.

Taking place on March 23, the festival will take place at SWX, Rough Trade and Strange Brew with the addition of The Island for the first time this year.

Co-headliners Dream Wife and Liz Lawrence have been announced, alongside supporting slots from the likes of Do Nothing, Widowspeak, Cheekface, William Doyle and Das Koolies.

Elsewhere, exclusives include a special opening set from the legendary Martin Newell AKA The Cleaners From Venus, plus a reunion show set for the recently reformed Brooklyn band Cende.

Peckham singer-songwriter and producer Sam Akpro, Connecticut alt/rock heroes Ovlov, Garden Centre, MM’99 and Bristol homegrown talent Pem are also on this year’s lineup.

Local label Spinny Nights will also return for 2024, curating a lineup at The Island, delivering a curated platter of avant-garde leaning, genre-blending artists.

First wave names include their latest signing BUFFEE, plus Damefrisør, The New Eves, Pearling, ThisisDA, JÆD, Arcadia Planitia Five-a-Side Football Team and Dead Space Chamber Music.

Bristol band Minor Conflict and Japanese Television will be performing at the Ritual Union aftershow at Strange Brew, taking place until 3am.
