Preview: In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited

By Adam Burrows  Friday Oct 23, 2015

Music has always been central to the work of David Lynch. He’s a musician in his own right, of course, and as bonkers as it was in places his synthpop-flavoured 2011 album Crazy Clown Time met with mostly positive reviews.

More famous – and rightly so – is the wonderful music Angelo Badalamenti composed for Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive. Along with the nightmarish ambient soundscapes of Lynch’s early masterpiece Eraserhead we’d expect those to feature strongly in the forthcoming concert of Lynch music at the Colston Hall.

EatDrink24/7 Launch Party is back on July 8 2026!
Exclusive collabs from Bristol’s favourite food vendors, available for one night only. Be first to grab your free copy of the EatDrink24/7 guide – plus every ticket comes with a free limited-edition beer can.

Musical director David Coulter (The Pogues, Test Dept) has assembled a crack team of musicians for the project, many of them inhabiting the noirish corners of rock. Among them are the great Mick Harvey – who was Nick Cave’s most trusted lieutenant in The Bad Seeds for 25 years – as well as Tindersticks frontman Stuart Staples and Jehnny Beth of Savages. The Bristol show is the only UK date the group are playing before they cross the Channel for a two night stint in Paris.

The concert forms part of a Colston Hall autumn season that has also seen Xiu Xiu re-work the Twin Peaks soundtrack and Asian Dub Foundation take on the music of George Lucas’ debut feature THX 1138. In Dreams: David Lynch Revisited promises to “immerse the audience into the mood and atmosphere of Lynch’s universe, with landmark instrumental tracks and exciting new versions of songs from his films.” Sitting uncomfortably yet?

David Lynch: In Dreams is at Colston Hall on Thursday, November 19. For more information visit www.colstonhall.org/shows/in-dreams-david-lynch-revisited
