Review: Giggs, Shy FX & Conducta, Motion

By Ngaio Anyia  Sunday Jan 29, 2017

The Blast Winter Carnival swept through Motion at the weekend with a seriously grimey line up.

Unsurprisingly the place was packed to the point of slipping through the crowd on a sea of strangers sweat, resulting in minimal skanking space in the main room for a majority of the night. Mildly frustrating, but to be expected for the calibre of the night and thankfully the second level was much more dance friendly.

Obviously the crowd was pulled in for main man Giggs who played a set of hits – the roar when ‘Look What The Cat Dragged In’ got dropped was close to deafening – no more holding back. Groups melded together as strangers gun fingered at each other with relish – this is the tune we’d been waiting for and the energy levels were still high on the third wheel up.

Despite the pull of Giggs, personally Shy FX is who got me there and he outdid himself (though to be fair I feel like that’s the way I feel every time I see him). He reads the crowd perfectly and choices,  straddling old school bangers with the freshest tunes, managed to ignite a squeal of pleasant surprise each time.

Last but definitely not least, Bristol man Conducta was shelling out some serious bass – if you didn’t catch him, you missed out but here’s a cheeky mix that he dropped on Wednesday. Next time he comes to town, make sure you know because he sets the vibe, standard.
