Get to Know: Snazzback
Seven piece ‘dancefloor instrumentalists’ Snazzback on their origin story and creative inspirations, how the city has influenced them and what’s coming next.
“We met on the streets of Bristol…
“…playing improvised music on Park Street and by the harbour. This then turned into writing music together and playing shows, starting at the Hatter (RIP), onto a long-standing residency at the Gallimaufry, then expanding our reach to many other venues in Bristol and further afield.
is needed now More than ever
“Our sound is constantly evolving; however, the groove-based heart of the music is always present.”

“This band was born in Bristol…
“….and has been nurtured by the diverse range of artists that comprise the thriving scene in the city.
“We all play in other groups with Bristol-based creatives, as well as running jam sessions, so we’re constantly drawing inspiration from the incredible talent all around us.
“We are lucky to have an abundance of great venues in the city who will encourage and give platforms to up and coming artists – such as the Gallimaufry, which gave us a space to really grow as a band.”

Our musical inspirations are very broad ranging and disparate….
“…from Cuban carnival music to jungle, dubstep to acoustic folk music. We’re all digging different stuff all the time, and our music inevitably enmeshes those influences together through our open and collaborative writing process.”
Our favourite musical memories include…
“…our most recent show at Strange Brew where we played alongside our friends TC and the Groove Family – that was one to remember for sure!
“And playing at Pennabilli festival in the mountains in Italy last summer was magical.”

Right now we’re busy in the studio cooking up new music…
“Each release we put out feels like a level-up, and we just want to keep making better records and sharing our sound further afield.
“So we’re looking forward to getting this stuff recorded – keep your ears peeled!”
