Get to Know: Omega Nebula
With vibrations that delve deep to the heart of the earth, Omega Nebula are reaching for the stars.
The duo are shaking dancefloors from Glasgow to Guernsey via Glastonbury in an expansive summer tour that takes their explosive future-dub sound to all corners of the UK and makes a few forays into Europe too.
Before embarking on their new project, husband-and-wife team Adjua and Dean Forrest fronted esteemed reggae eight-piece Backbeat Soundsystem but their musical lives started very differently.

Adjua drummed in an all-female thrash-punk band before being drawn into free parties and raves, while Dean turned a youthful fascination with music into a production career fusing vintage sounds with modern techniques.
In Omega Nebula they combine their enduring passion for heavyweight bass subcultures and slick digital production with dub reggae and dubstep, their high energy performances spreading uplifting messages of self-belief, unity and peace.
It is, they say, “a rally cry for ravers to rise up and take control”. And it’s one that stopped central Bristol in its tracks when the pair treated Broadmead to a one-off full power show – including a synth-led dub-style Doctor Who mash up – videos of which racked up hundreds of thousands of views online.
From a cruise shop off the coast of Japan, where they work as resident musicians over the winter months, the duo behind the unstoppable musical force of nature that is Omega Nebula share their story.
Tell us about your music…
“We like to call it future dub – not just because of the way it sounds but also because our lyrics are very future focused. It’s meant to be an uplifting, empowering, motivating and invigorating blend of digital steppers dub and dubstep – with our own OMEGA NEBULA flavour.

“Our tracks are basically dubwise personal development anthems! Themes tend to be centred around empowerment, manifestation, equality, peace, love, unity, joy, wisdom and freedom, with a healthy dose of bass to shake your soul!”
How did you hit upon the name?
“Well nebulas are a beautiful and mystical phenomenon in nature – there is an actual nebula called Omega Nebula. We love that they are like star nurseries producing brand new stars. The word Omega has many interpretations and meanings but we like that to some it means the ultimate destination of creation and that it also can represent a ‘peacemaker’.”

Any key influences or inspirations?
“Hundreds of innovative digital dub and dubstep producers, the UK underground bass music and festival scene, Teachings in dub, St Pauls Carnival and navigating life…
“Bristol is our spirit home! We’ve been raving in Bristol since we were far too young to be raving and it’s shaped our taste, which is reflected in our music. Adjua also studied at dbs Bristol (which she LOVED) and has a degree in electronic music.”

What do you want people to take away from your live show?
“Our music is made for sound systems, so hearing it through big rigs is how you feel its fullest power. The world can be so overwhelming: we believe that our job is to lift up our audience so that they leave with a lust for a life and feel like they can take on anything.”
