Dr Meaker start Dirt & Soul tour @ Lakota
Dr Meaker will be kicking off their Dirt & Soul tour at Lakota on 10th February – this nine piece band bring drum & bass to life! We picked their brains ahead of the gig…
Who’s dominating your playlist right now?
We’ve just been asked by Circus Record to put together a playlist and I’m half way through doing that. Still working out the flow but here are some of the bands (Clive, Tom & Laurent’s) favourite tunes from different eras including some fresh new artists and some classics,:
is needed now More than ever
Dr Meaker – Summer Stepping / Gardna & Parly B – Big Bad Sound (prod. by Dr Meaker) / Laid Blak – Bristol Love DJ Bunjy Dub Invasion Remix / UB40 – King / The Skints – This Town / Sampha – Blood on me / Gallant – Bone + Tissue / St. Germaine – Rose Rouge / Massive Attack – Safe From Harm / Jorja Smith – Where Did I Go? / Joy Division – New Dawn Fades / Jonas Rathman – Wolfsbane / Paragon – 2Bad ft DDark / Flume – Heater / Diskord – Leave it all behind / John Coltrane – In a sentimental Mood / Dr Meaker – Freed
What’s your favourite song to play?
When we play live it’s always a buzz playing an new tune but overall Fighter is my favourite tune to play cos it has the big euphoric intro and a monster drop that always smashes up the place. Its become a bit of a Bristol classic and big up producer Octo-Pi and vocalist Lorna King writing it with me.
Who are your major musical influences?
I guess everything I’ve ever heard and loved listened again and again.
A few that stand out are Air, The Prodigy, Massive Attack, John Coltrane, The Beatles, Tracy Chapman, Joy Division, Bob Marley, Fleetwood Mac, Ed Rush & Optical, V Recordings, Full Cycle & Stevie Wonder & Music Festivals and Raves.
What song do you pick to get ready for a night out?
‘Street Life’ by the Crusaders and the magical voice of Randy Crawford.
What have you got coming up?
More record releases will happen on different record labels as well as Circus Records. I’ve been enjoying making music with no pressure and going back to the roots of it all, which feels refreshing again. I’m also starting a new project which I’ll reveal a little later in the year.
