Burst Radio celebrates The Wurzels

By Connie Brownhill  Friday Nov 26, 2021

Burst Radio will air an evening of programming dedicated to legendary Bristolian band The Wurzels, celebrating their local importance in their 55th year.

At 7pm on Sunday, Xander Brett will be joined on his show by Tommy Banner (the band’s only original member), and at 8pm (during The Best of Burst Radio slot), it will air The Wurzels: From A to Z, with contributions from several of the station’s presenters.

The Wurzels formed in 1966 and went on to have hits spanning the decades, with their number one hit Combine Harvester propelling them to Top of the Pops performances, Glastonbury Festival and world tours.

Burst Radio is the University of Bristol’s student radio station, broadcasting online 24/7 during term times.

With more than 75 radio live radio hosts, and more podcasting on the website, it provides its own schedule from 10am-10pm and otherwise joins Bristol’s award-winning community station BCfm.

Weekday Breakfast and Hangover Brunch shows, along with weekend Brunch shows, are combined with news, sport and specialist music programming to deliver a schedule that entertains and informs students across the city.

The weekly ‘Best of Burst Radio’ hour is syndicated to BCfm, and its clips are frequently broadcast by BBC Radio Bristol. The station has also come to the attention of national presenters Jeremy Vine, Jo Whiley, Johnnie Walker, Scott Mills, Cerys Matthews and Phill Jupitus… many of whom have come on the station over the years.
