Bristol Sounds superfans: Supergrass

By Ursula Billington  Monday Apr 21, 2025

In the run up to the Bristol Sounds concert series, which this year features much-loved acts that have long stood the test of time, Bristol superfans reveal their favourite memories of the bands playing.

First up: Supergrass, who play their smash hit debut I Should Coco at the Lloyds Amphitheatre on June 25 in celebration of its 30th anniversary.

Superfan James Bath shares why his love for the band has endured.

When did you discover Supergrass?

“In July 1995, I remember buying the single Alright on tape and listening to it on the beach on holiday. I’ve been a fan ever since!”

What is it about them that gets to you?

“It’s just that era of music. Growing up in the 90s with the likes of Supergrass, Blur, Oasis, Radiohead and Placebo. My compilations would be so retro now!

“They are one of the bands I grew up listening to and they’re one of the best around. The classic hits such as Alright, Moving and Pumping On Your Stereo always stay in my mind.”

How about your favourite live show?

“I’m really looking forward to seeing them this summer. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see them live in Bristol 2020 due to the pandemic, but thanks to Bristol Sounds 2025 will be the year I finally get to see them. 30 years of I should Coco – pretty cool eh?

“My all time favourite live show was probably seeing Placebo for the first time back in 2003.”

Supergrass have been back in the studio rehearsing for the upcoming tour: “Rehearsals going good for the Supergrass summer shows. Coco tracks sounding fresh 🍉 Good vibes,” said frontman Gaz Coombes – photo: Supergrass

What are you hoping for from their Bristol show?

“All their hits of course! I missed out last time and who knows when they might tour again!”
