My Friend Dahmer
The blackly comic true story of the notorious serial killer's schoolmate
We’re being treated to the briefest of breathers from blockbusters this week, so mature lady romcom Book Club is hoping to coin it for a few days as the only major new release. That said, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is with us from Wednesday – in 2D and 3D, naturally – with some multiplexes doing the one-minute-past-midnight screening thing for early raptors.
If you’re sick of headache-inducing sci-fi, the 50th anniversary reissue of Kubrick’s brilliant 2001 provides ammo for those who reckon the ’60s and early ’70s were a golden age of cerebral cinema that managed to draw huge audiences. There are also some fine arthouse releases at the Watershed this week, including the blackly comic My Friend Dahmer and François Ozon’s stylish erotic thriller Double Lover.
Elsewhere, Millennium Square plays host to a free outdoor screening of Back to the Future, the Cube has Boogie Nights with an actual disco, An Ideal Husband is the latest Oscar Wilde play to be beamed to cinemas live from the West End, Bristol Film Festival serves up The Talented Mr Ripley with fine wines and – if you really must – the Everyman invites to to party at the cinema with perky posters Steps.
As usual, follow the links below for more details and screening times and go here for our comprehensive film listings.
