Inspired Takeover celebrating filmmakers of colour returns in June

By Robin Askew  Thursday May 18, 2023

Cables & Cameras returns to the Watershed on Saturday 3 June for another packed, day-long Inspired Takeover of screenings, talks and previews to celebrate filmmakers of colour.

Highlights of the event, which runs from 1pm-10pm, include Mid20s, the new film by rising stars of the indie film scene the Williams brothers, followed by a Q&A with actor Scott Bayliss, hosted by Bristol Black Horror Club’s Adam Murray; Dominique Unsworth leading a masterclass on How to Build Your Production Company; and the south-west regional premiere of Disney Searchlight’s new historical drama Chavalier – the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr.) rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton).

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Stephen Williams (online from LA) and assistant director Anastasia Osei-Kuffour (in person). Chevalier opens at the Watershed on June 9.
