Released back in 2015, Inside Out is often cited as ‘Peak Pixar’. So there was always going to be a huge audience for the sequel, but nobody expected it to be quite this big. Inside Out 2 has just become the biggest opener of 2024 at the UK box office. That whopping £11.3m debut also makes it the biggest opener since Barbie. Bad Boys: Ride Or Die was knocked firmly back into second place, but is still doing well and has already taken more loot than the first film in the hit franchise. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes reached £15m after six weeks on release, while The Garfield Movie withered slightly in the heat of animated competition, slipping back into fifth place. At the foot of the chart are two new entries of more selective appeal: rewilding documentary Wilding and psychoanalysis drama Freud’s Last Session, with Anthony Hopkins as Sigmund Freud.
