Chart copyright Comscore

The Mean Girls musical held on to the top spot for a second weekend, holding off the challenge from Andrew Haigh’s well received All of Us Strangers and will soon overtake the earnings of the original 2004 movie. But results were mixed for musicals elsewhere in the top ten. Wonka continues to haul in the loot and has now overtaken Oppenheimer to become the second most successful film released in 2023. But there wasn’t much interest in the musical version of The Color Purple, which scraped into eighth place. Meanwhile, awards contenders Poor Things and The Holdovers continue to do well in the middle of the chart, with the latter actually increasing its takings by 9%.
