Barbie bagged another £20m in its third week on release and has now overtaken Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to secure 18th place in the UK all-time chart. Mamma Mia! is next in its sights. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer continues to hold up better than Barbie in second place and could yet eclipse the director’s biggest hit, The Dark Knight. Ben Wheatley’s Meg 2: The Trench was their biggest challenger, with a £3.8m haul that would have secured first place in any normal week. Just behind this, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem could prove to be the biggest hit of the rebooted franchise. The fact that each film in the top five took more than £1m at the weekend also suggests that Barbenheimer audiences are sticking around to see other films.
