‘Breaking the Fifth Wall’: Lou Wall wrangles with the truth

By Sarski Anderson  Monday Oct 20, 2025

Australian comedian, composer and actor Lou Wall didn’t waste any time when springing onto the comedy scene.

They were quickly characterised for a seamless and energetic blend of punchy jokes, songs and powerpoint slides, delivered at the breakneck speed of an intuitively ‘online’ performer.

Their first solo show Lou Wall vs The Internet earned them the Moosehead Award in 2023.

This early accolade was followed in 2024 by the prestigious Best of the Festival award at the Sydney Comedy Festival for Wall’s next hour, The Bisexual’s Lament, which also received a nomination for the Most Outstanding Show at Melbourne Comedy Festival that same year.

Fresh from a stellar Edinburgh Fringe run in 2025, Wall is now touring both sides of the Atlantic, with an astonishing 10 night Off Broadway run at the Soho Playhouse, New York preceding a string of UK dates, and two homecoming performances at Sydney Opera House in early 2026.

Their latest show Breaking the Fifth Wall is directed by fellow Australian comedian Zoë Coombs Marr – who herself has earned multiple awards for her work (most memorably in the guise of her alter ego, male misogynist comedian ‘Dave’).

It concerns itself with the thorny issue of truth, specifically as it pertains to Wall’s previous material, ‘Where is Bed?’, which went on to become a global viral sensation. It is, they say, “a forensic and frankly ludicrous deep dive into the space where performance and reality collide”.
