Bookshop unexpectedly closes

By Martin Booth  Monday Sep 1, 2025

A Bristol bookshop has unexpectedly closed its doors and is merging with a sister store.

Foyles was located within Cabot Circus between Next and Pandora, having originally been in Quakers Friars.

But a sign on its door says it is now permanently shut, with most of the books now packed in boxes.

In an Instagram post on Monday afternoon, the Foyles team said: “Foyles Cabot Circus is now closed. We will be merging with our friends in Waterstones Galleries.

“Thank you for all of your support. We look forward to seeing you in Waterstones soon!”

Despite the merger, a Foyles spokesperson told Bristol24/7 that they are “actively looking for a suitable new location in the area where we hope to reopen soon”.

Waterstones in the Galleries has a finite future due to the forthcoming demolition of the Galleries shopping centre.

Bristol24/7 understands that preparations are already underway to find a suitable replacement site for Waterstones when the Galleries closes.
