New four-way collab mural celebrates Big Issue and BillyChip
A new mural painted by four Bristol artists marks a new initiative that enables Big Issue sellers to use the BillyChip community currency to purchase magazines.
Each BillyChip is purchased by a member of the public and gifted to someone experiencing homelessness, with the chip then able to be exchanged for food, drink or other essentials.
The collaboration between Aimes Was Here, Conrico Steez, Jody and Melo Murals is at the People’s Republic of Stokes Croft’s outdoor gallery on Jamaica Street.

The four-way collaboration artwork was assisted by Art Sync.
It has been painted ahead of BillyChip Live, a charity concert at Bristol Beacon on November 22 headlined by DJ James Hype, with all proceeds going towards building three micro-homes in partnership with Help Bristol’s Homeless.
Each of the four artists have painted a different part of the story.
From left to right, Aimes Was Here’s section of the wall features a Big Issue seller, Melo incorporates a blue BillyChip token in her signature style, Jody has painted a black and white portrait of James Hype, and Conrico’s portion reimagines a community of micro-homes within natural surroundings.

Big Issue managing director, Catherine Parsons, said: “We’re thrilled to see the iconic red Big Issue tabard made vivid and larger than life by such talented artists.”
BillyShip’s Jack Gascoigne added “This partnership with the Big Issue is a huge step forward for BillyChip.
“It proves that something as simple as a token can unlock real opportunity.
“By accepting BillyChips, sellers can grow their income and independence – and that’s exactly the kind of practical, human support we need more of.
“The mural puts a spotlight on that work, while also raising awareness of the housing solutions we’re delivering with Help Bristol’s Homeless through BillyChip Live.”
