‘Ceramics, cakes and caffeine’ at new south Bristol cafe
Ceramics will become canvases for painting at a new cafe, where visitors can indulge in art while enjoying beverages and cakes.
The paint your own pottery cafe, Made at Nest, first opened in Frome in 2022, promising “ceramics, cakes and caffeine”.
After three years of painting on pots, bowls, mugs and any imaginable ceramic creation, partners Chloe and Gareth are hopeful of joining the “creative energy of Bedminster”.

The new cafe will take up what was most recently the home to the Australian-inspired cafe, Nook, on North Street, squeezing itself between a barber’s and nail salon.
Preparing for the new site, Chloe and Gareth said: “Pottery painting has traditionally been seen as something for kids (and yes – toddlers do love painting our Dinosaurs), but we wanted to create a space that felt inviting for adults.
“That’s why we’ve shaped our vibe more like a coffee shop than an art studio.”
At their Frome cafe, patrons get to choose from more than 100 ceramics, which they can then paint on, while indulging in a selection of treats and beverages.

During the two lockdowns in 2020-2022, Chloe went ahead and bought a kiln – kick-starting her “adventure” and swapping careers from hairdresser to entrepreneur.
Before she could realise, the pair had opened their doors to the many adults looking for a place to relax, unwind and simply enjoy.
Chloe and Gareth see Bedminster as the perfect hotbed for creativity, where their cafe can easily fit in: “We felt the creative energy of Bedminster, and with so many brilliant independent shops along North Street, we knew we wanted to be a part of it.
“Our lovely Maisie will be running the show for us and we’d love people to pop in and say hello!”
With preparations in full swing, the pair hope to open their new Bristol site on August 5.
