Battling homelessness with live competitive painting

By Steve Wright  Tuesday Oct 31, 2017

Taking place at The Island on Saturday, Nov 11 from 7-11pm, Art Battle Bristol is a live competitive painting event that sees artists go head-to-head in 30-minute rounds, with the audience deciding the winner. At the end of the night the paintings will be auctioned, with proceeds split between the homeless charity St Mungo’s and the artists themselves.

“The event provides a platform for artists to showcase their skill given the creative pressure imposed by
timed rounds,” explains Rajeeve Parmar, events manager at Revolt Arts. “Art is made more accessible as the audience are present during its creation. This won’t be a pretentious introspective affair: the artists will be attacking the canvas with everything they’ve got.”

“This event capitalises on Bristol’s thriving art scene, making it more inclusive. How will fine artists fare against street artists more accustomed to working under difficult conditions? How will the work of a street artist translate to canvas?

“It’s the first of many battles so you can add paintbrushes to Bristol’s arsenal in the fight against homelessness.”
