St Anne’s Open House weekend celebrates local creative communities

By Sarski Anderson  Monday Jun 10, 2024

Coinciding with the BS4 Arts Trail, in which it will play a key part, St Anne’s House will be throwing open its doors for its annual Open House weekend on June 14-16.

Providing an opportunity to explore artist studios, view exhibitions and participate in workshops, the event represents an important point of connection for the many local creative communities in Bristol’s south east corner.

From painters and photographers to live artists, videographers and makers, there will be also be community gardening from a volunteer group, drop-in crafty sessions from Colourful Minds, the Bricks bar, and Sri Lankan food from Ceylon and Beyond.

Gary Thomas will be presenting his multi-screen video installation Lost Memories, inspired by his experience of being a carer to his mother, who has Alzheimer’s disease.

A multimedia exhibition from Studio 55 called Picture Atlas explores the incomplete research of Aby Warburg, the German art historian behind the Bilderatlas Mnemosyne.

And amongst the many other featured artists are Ellie Shipman, Matthew Lintott, Anna Haydock-Wilson, Ben Hartley, Jessica Akerman, Emma Gregory and Karolina Ptaszkowska.

The event is partnering with Bristol Ferries to run ferry trips to and from the centre to Netham Lock across the weekend.

Jack Gibbon is the director of Bricks Bristol. “Our annual Open House event provides an opportunity for testing ideas, and building connections with our community,” he enthuses.

“As we mark three years of St Anne’s House, this event highlights the joy of community engagement and shared experiences. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating art and connection.”

St Anne’s Open House begins with an opening night on June 14, from 6-11pm, and runs across the weekend from 11am-4pm. Follow @bricksbristol and @bs4artstrail for updates.
