Protesters call for stop to Rosebank oil field
Protesters in Bristol joined a nationwide day of action calling on the government to reject the UK’s largest untapped oil field.
Members of Stop Rosebank Bristol and Bristol Climate Choir were among the groups gathered next to the Cascade Steps as the government prepares to make a final decision on Rosebank in the coming months.
Demonstrators say that the UK-wide action on Saturday “shows the breadth of public opposition to the field and the demand for a fair, fast transition away from oil and gas”.

Esther Saunders-Jennings said: “We’re here to encourage our government to do the right and responsible thing: to prioritise a liveable future for all by moving away from fossil fuels and towards renewable, sustainable and secure energy sources.
“As Bristolians, we’re lucky to enjoy the harbourside; but it also reminds us about the risks of flooding, pollution and harm to marine life due to avoidable climate change.”
