In photos: Bristol’s climate news – February 2025

By Ursula Billington  Friday Feb 28, 2025

Groups have been enjoying the blooms of seeds sown and planting up new projects that look ahead to sunny months to come. There’s a sprinkle of protest and the usual creative streak, with a weaving collab and a new upcycled streetwear line launching just in time for spring. Plus radical booze and significant reuse news.

Retired Filton-based GP Dr Diana Warner has been jailed for obstructing a freight train which was carrying wood pellets on their way to Drax Power Station. On climate action and the Axe Drax campaign Warner said she has marched, emailed her MP, written letters, signed petitions, become active in organisations working for peace and for climate and stood for election for the local council and as an MP candidate in Filton and Bradley Stoke, but “none of these things have been effective for change” – photo: Axe Drax

Bristol’s Youth Rising for a Green New Deal activist group sent Valentine’s Day cards to key agencies calling on the government to ‘show rivers some love’ – photo: Green New Deal Rising

They hand delivered the cards to the offices of the Environment Agency, DEFRA and OfWat at Horizon House on Deanery Road, calling for water to be brought back into public ownership as part of their campaign for a transition to a green economy – photo: Green New Deal Rising

The city’s annual much-loved seed swap event took place at Trinity Centre, attracting hundreds of people through the door to give and take seeds, learn about community projects and eat homemade cake – photo: Alive Gardening

Attendees could pick from a wealth of seeds on offer, including heritage and rare varieties, at the event which has been run by passionate volunteers for over 20 years to make growing accessible and appealing to all – photo: Alive Gardening

Attendees heard from local groups including Edible Bristol, Golden Hill community garden, ALIVEgardening and Garden Folk CIC on how to get involved with growing when you don’t have your own green space – photo: Ediculture
