‘Raveageddon’ lands students in hot water

By Bristol24/7  Thursday May 26, 2016

Get ready. This may very well be a glimpse into the future of Bristol’s music scene.

UWE students turned promoters of tomorrow when they organised one of the biggest halls freshers parties of the year, crossing two flats and practicaly destroying a whole floor of the Marketgate tower block.

Raveageddon was a traditional sound system clash promoted as “704 vs 705” on floor seven of the Unite halls (a floor that was left vandalised and strewn with graffiti, landing tenants with a £700 bill).

Student newspaper The Tab reported corridors lit up with LED lights, laser shows, smoke machines, techno, disco, dubstep, acid house, minirigs, ketamine, gurning, vomit and graffiti.

The last sets started at 6am and the party even had its own Snapchat filter – kids these days, eh?

One of the residents of the flats told Bristol24/7 that the party is thought to be the biggest ever of its kind in student halls in Bristol. They added: “All the people from the flats would like to say that we are in no way affiliated with the damage or graffiti that took place and have made amends with Unite and the university.”

A spokesperson at Unite, which runs the student halls, said: “The circumstances surrounding last week’s events at Marketgate are being investigated, and the damage caused is in the process of being repaired. The eventual costs of this will be met by the residents involved, and they have also been reminded of the terms of their tenancy.”

UWE are yet to respond.
