World Cup-winning coach to be headline speaker at ‘Selling South’

By Milan Perera  Wednesday Oct 1, 2025

A World Cup-winning coach will be among the speakers at one of the biggest sales conferences in the South West.

Clive Woodward, who achieved legendary status after leading England to victory in the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, will headline the inaugural Selling South sales conference.

The event is expected to bring together the South West’s business community for a full day of high-impact sales training, networking and coaching.

Better Business is an initiative launched by Bristol24/7 to help businesses thrive, whilst creating a positive impact on Bristol and the people who live here.

Created by Bristol-born entrepreneur and UWE Bristol alumni Sunjay Singh, the conference promises practical, “real-world” strategies and tools to boost revenue.

Singh, who launched his first business venture as a teenager while studying genetics at UWE Bristol, said: “If there are no sales, there is no business, right?

“That was my starting point. The idea came to me and I just couldn’t shake it. A week went by and I was still thinking about it every day, so I thought: let’s explore it, do some due diligence.”

Despite the potential of the region’s business community, Singh said he was surprised to find that large-scale sales conferences are not a feature in the South West, unlike its competitor cities such as London, Manchester and Birmingham.

Founder of the video content agency Life Media UK, Singh has worked with some of the country’s biggest brands and often asked the question: why do businesses fail?

He commented that the South West is a “sleeping giant that needs awakening”.

Encouraged by his previous smaller conferences, which attracted 15 to 20 attendees, Singh decided to scale up with Selling South.

He said: “I just thought, what if we do this for 200 people? Because sales and sales training are two things.

“First, a lot of people have a negative connotation with sales — they don’t like the word. And second, because of that, many people are put into sales roles with no real training. We don’t do that with any other function in business.”

The one-day event at Ashton Gate on Friday is expected to draw around 160 attendees, all looking to gain insights into the fine margins between making a profit and going bust.

The speaker line-up features an impressive mix of leaders from sport, business, the military and behavioural science, each tackling a different aspect of sales.
