Ministry of Defence to open 150 new apprenticeships

By Milan Perera  Friday Jan 24, 2025

As National Apprenticeship Week (February 10-16) approaches, the Bristol-headquartered Ministry of Defence (MOD) is opening up around 150 positions across various disciplines.

Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), the MOD’s procurement arm, has launched a recruitment drive to fill both new apprenticeship and graduate roles, primarily based in Bristol.

The programme includes 10 different schemes, featuring the newly introduced security graduate scheme.

This initiative aims to support MOD operations by safeguarding people, information, and physical assets. The new roles span diverse fields such as finance, engineering, project delivery, and digital technology.

These positions reflect DE&S’s ongoing commitment to developing the UK’s future talent pool. Other available schemes include the Finance Graduate Scheme, Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, and Digital Technology Degree Apprenticeship, with applications open until February 17, 2025.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to gain experience at DE&S locations nationwide, furthering their professional development.

Previous recruits, such as Benjamin Tyrrell, a chartered management degree apprentice, have praised the rewarding nature of the schemes, highlighting the unique opportunity to contribute to the MOD’s mission.

Similarly, Sidney Vasili, a project delivery graduate, has lauded the comprehensive support and professional growth available within the organisation.

Jo Osburn-Hughes, people director and diversity and inclusion co-champion at DE&S, said:

“We in DE&S are proud to offer a wide range of exciting career opportunities and are committed to providing ways to build our leaders in Defence for today and for the future. We are focused on investing in the growth and development of our people.

“Our early careers programmes for our apprentices and graduates are founded on providing real-work experience and full support for continuous learning. If you have a friend or family member looking to start their career, why not take a look at what DE&S has to offer.”

Of the 150 positions, 145 will be based at Bristol, shaping the careers of aspiring professionals in the defence sector.
