Another of those Sky Cinema releases that are available simultaneously to cinemagoers and subscribers, this new one from Oscar nominated (Dirty Pretty Things) writer/director Steven Knight is a noirish mystery thriller with Matthew McConaughey as a fisherman working off a tropical island who’s tracked down by his ex-missus Anne Hathaway. She begs for help in fleeing her violent new hubby. Alas, when he takes her out to sea, she chucks him to the sharks and leaves him for dead. Which isn’t very nice. But all is not what it seems.
Reviews have been, erm, mixed, with The Guardian branding the big twist “gob-smackingly ill-conceived”.
