Remember that mysterious ‘Untitled James Gunn Horror Movie’, which was scheduled for release back in October 2018? Well here it is. Mr. Gunn, you’ll recall, is the Guardians of the Galaxy director who was fired (and subsequently reinstated) by Disney after falling foul of the New Censoriousness and the alt-right when tasteless jokes he’d tweeted nearly a decade ago came to light. Anyhow, he hasn’t been idle while sitting on the sidelines – although he serves only as producer on this project, which reunites him with Slither star Elizabeth Banks.
Offering an obvious nod to the Superman origin story, BrightBurn is a superhero flick with a horror twist. Banks and David Denman play a couple who adopt a sprog from beyond the stars, as you do. But rather than being mankind’s saviour, the ungrateful little bugger comes over all evil.
