Under normal circumstances, this formulaic drama might be expected to go straight to DVD/streaming services. But these are not normal circumstances, so it’s getting a brief cinema release for the benefit of those who crave big screen uplift.
Celia Imrie plays pensioner Mimi, who teams up with two other women to open a Notting Hill bakery in memory of her late daughter Sarah. With a little help from Sarah’s former partner Matthew (Rupert Penry-Jones), it soon becomes a big success. Romcom weepie shenanigans ensue in familiar Richard Curtis territory.
