Another of those welcome crossover arthouse horrors in the A Quiet Place/Hereditary/Babadook mould, Irish writer/director Lee Cronin‘s suspenseful feature debut is a Sundance festival hit that puts a mildly fresh spin on the ‘spooky kid’ and ‘cabin in the woods’ genres.
Seana Kerslake plays a stressed single mother who moves to rural Ireland with her pre-teen nipper James Quinn Markey in search of a fresh start. Alas, their isolated farmhouse is on the edge of a forest hiding a bloody great sinkhole, to which the lad is drawn. When he returns all strange after a disappearance, she begins to suspect that – ulp! – he’s not her kid at all… Go here for our review.
