The Curse of La Llorona

Director
Michael Chaves
Certificate
15
Running Time
93 mins

Billed as the sixth film in what we must learn to call The Conjuring Universe (y’know, those Conjuring and Annabelle movies, plus The Nun), this one has Tony Amendola reprising his Annabelle role as the Basil Exposition-esque priest whose function is to explain the backstory for the benefit of slower members of the audience.

The story is based on ye olde Latin American folk tale of the guilt-ridden ‘weeping woman’ apparition who’s condemned to walk the earth looking for children to replace the ones she drowned to punish her cheating hubby. Here, the blubbin’ spook pops up in 1973 to menace a social worker and her nippers.
