André Øvredal, Norwegian writer/director of the splendid Trollhunter, teams up with Guillermo del Toro (who gets a ‘story by’ and producer credit) for this adaptation of the folklore-derived children’s horror anthology series by Alvin Schwartz.

Set in the small American town of Mill Valley in the late 1960s, it has a bunch of teens discovering a book written by an unhappy girl named Sarah, who translated her miserable life experiences into a series of spooky yarns. Needless to say, these have a habit of becoming all too real for those who read them.
