Professor Wassermann (John Stacy) is asked by industry magnate Morgan Hunnicut (Eddie Faye) to lead an expedition to study the giant Yeti found frozen in a large ice block on Newfoundland’s coast. But what the prof doesn’t realise is that the dastardly tycoon intends to thaw out the hairy critter and use it to promote his multinational conglomerate.
If the plot sounds very familiar, that’s because this Italian feature from 1977 was one of a wave of knock-offs released to cash in on the now largely forgotten Dino De Laurentiis version of King Kong. It is, of course, cheap, cheesy and enormous fun, its ‘yeti’ being a bloke in a fur suit with a Tina Turner wig on top, whose size changes abruptly from scene to scene. Don’t worry about subtitles, because the Bristol Bad Film Club is screening an English dubbed print. All profits go to The Rainbow Centre for Children. Go here for tickets.
