Yep, it’s a big-value double bill of the previous Avengers film and the new one. In case you forgot, the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy franchises collided in Infinity War – the 19th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Story? Well, it seems that naughty old intergalactic galactic bad guy Thanos (Josh Brolin) has pitched up on Earth to snaffle the Infinity Stones that’ll confer reality-bending omnipotence on him. The Avengers, who are still bickering after the events of Captain America: Civil War, must now team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to thwart him by means of combined superhero whupass.
Infinity War became the first superhero movie to gross more than $2 billion worldwide, so it’s little wonder there’s no appetite for tinkering with a winning formula. The new one reunites the old gang with the directing and writing teams of its predecessor. Plot-wise, it sees the universe in a bit of a state thanks to the efforts of big purple space villain Thanos. Expect the cliffhanger at the end of that one to be resolved and an excuse to be found for the key dead Avengers to come back to life. (Hey – they’re too valuable to kill off altogether.)
