Before the Louvre’s record-breaking (one million visitors) Da Vinci retrospective closed its doors back in February, the museum was already looking at ways in which the exhibition could be preserved on film. The popularity of the Louvre’s website and social media in lockdown underlined that there are many different ways of appreciating art. So the museum’s first event cinema collaboration is particularly timely given that public access to such exhibitions is likely to be severely limited for the foreseeable future.
Sticking to the formula of previous exhibition films, A Night at the Louvre offers an unhurried HD stroll through the musuem in the company of the exhibition’s curators, Vincent Delieuvin and Louis Frank, who offer expert commentary on the artist’s “science of painting”.
