We the Animals

Director
Jeremiah Zagar
Certificate
15
Running Time
94 mins

Documentary filmmaker Jeremiah Zagar‘s narrative feature debut does the impressionistic, lyrical, dreamlike thing in bringing to the screen Justin Torres‘ autobiographical 2011 novel about a working class mixed-race family with three young sons living in upstate New York.

If you’re looking for stuff actually happening, this is probably not the non-linear coming-of-age movie with a gay twist for you. But anyone who enjoyed Moonlight or Terrence Malick’s audience-dividing Tree of Life should dive right in.
