On the silver linings front, the refugee crisis has certainly been good for drama.
German director Christian Petzold‘s existential thriller is ostensibly based on Anna Seghers‘ 1944 semi-autobiographical novel about a man who adopts the identity of a dead writer to flee from occupied Paris to Marseilles, where he falls in with other refugeees from a variety of backgrounds. But the film skilfully elides past and present to become universal exploration of the experiences of displaced people.
