The Truth
- Director
- Hirokazu Koreeda
- Certificate
- PG
- Running Time
- 107 mins
The great Hirokazu Koreeda‘s follow-up to Shoplifters is another of his trademark skilful dissections of the tensions in modern families.
Reviews haven’t been quite as ecstatic as usual, largely because this is the first film he’s made outside Japan and some critics have seen it as a rather self-conscious attempt to ape French arthouse cinema. Catherine Deneuve is perfectly cast as an aging, narcissistic screen icon who has just published her memoirs. Daughter Juliette Binoche returns from New York with her hubby and daughter in tow to confront the festering resentments stirred up by its contents.
