“There are eight million stories in the naked city…” Cops Don Taylor and Barry Fitzgerald investigate the case of a dead model in a bathtub in what would otherwise be a fairly bog-standard noir were it not for director Jules Dassin‘s innovative, Weegee-influenced documentary-style approach, which immerses us in the sights and sounds of New York City. The Naked City justly won Oscars for cinematography and editing back in 1948.
It’s back on screen in the Cube’s noir season and also as part of the Festival of the Future City.
