It’s that biopic of Bert Trautmann you’ve been waiting for! Non-football enthusiasts may need to be reminded of the extraordinary story of the late Manchester City goalie. A WWII Nazi paratrooper, who was captured and wound up in a Lancashire POW camp, Trautmann refused an offer of repatriation and settled in the UK after the War.

As a professional footballer, he experienced hostility from some fans but went on to become regarded as one of the all-time-great goalkeepers, being awarded an OBE in 2004 for his work in promoting Anglo-German understanding (remember that, Brexiteers?). He’s played here by German actor David Kross, who had a small role in War Horse. There’s a love story chucked in for the ladies too.
